HAVERHILL –Shaun Toohey announced Tuesday that he is running for a seat on the Haverhill City Council this November. Toohey took out his papers at the city clerk's office on Tuesday, according to City Clerk Linda Koutoulas.
"I am committed to winning this November and I look forward to a spirited conversation with residents about issues that concern us and ways we can bring better leadership to city government," said Toohey, a former member of the Haverhill School Committee and a former Haverhill representative to the Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School School Committee.
There are now three candidates running in the special election to fill the seat being vacated by longtime state Rep. Brian Dempsey.
School Committeeman Shaun Toohey, who previously intended to run for the City Council this fall, is switching gears and mounting a campaign for the 3rd Essex District seat Dempsey held for almost 27 years.
